In recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness month, Guadalupe, Calif.-based Apio Inc. plans to donate a minimum of $25,000 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation Inc., Frisco, Texas.

In October, Apio will feature 22-ounce Eat Smart petite fresh-cut vegetable trays with promotional stickers to alert shoppers that purchasing the trays helps support the Breast Cancer Foundation, according to a news release. Apio will donate to the foundation approximately 20 cents from the purchase of each tray, according to the release.

The trays will be available to retailers throughout the U.S., said Cali Tanguay, director of marketing.

“Breast cancer is a frightening topic, and as more awareness is brought to the issue, organizations will be better able to fund early detection programs, research targeted at finding the cure, and programs that support families impacted by the disease,” Tanguay said.

“Eating fresh raw vegetables can play an important role in improving health and reducing the risk of cancer,” she said.
