Among the sticker contest winners were these entries, which garnered the largest number of votes.

The Cincinnati-based company launched a sticker design contest mid-June, asking consumers to submit banana sticker designs with only one limitation — they had to use the company’s core shades of yellow and blue. After narrowing the submitted designs to 50, Chiquita opened up the decision for the top 18 to consumers, who voted on their favorites.

The company received more than 100,000 votes on, a website created specifically for online promotions and interactive marketing targeted to consumers under age 35.

“They just don’t relate and don’t have as much attachment as we have seen with consumers who grew up with the brand,” said Judy Chen, corporate marketing group leader, before the launch of the contest in June. “Our core consumer target is still women with kids, but we thought it was also important to build a relationship with tomorrow’s households.”

In 2008, when Chiquita launched the new site, one of its features was a sticker design tool. That activity, though, only incorporated eyes, ears, noses and other facial features and accessories. The winners of the sticker design contest strayed far away from faces, although a few designs do incorporate them.

A complete list of winners, as well as all of the sticker designs, is available on Chiquita's site.
