Just in time for the year end holidays, Columbia Marketing International Corp., Wenatchee, Wash., has unveiled a new retail display for pears.

CMI rolls out new pear retail display

The stand alone display features several pear varieties and a spin wheel that permits shoppers to match each variety with compatible combinations of wines and cheeses, said Bob Mast, vice president of marketing.

“We’re trying to capture an audience that isn’t necessarily picking up pears on a daily basis,” he said. “We’re trying to make pear buying fun, trendy and interesting to think about pears in different ways and using the fruit with wines and cheeses.”

The display is versatile in that it may be placed anywhere in a store, Mast said.

“And the beauty of it is that everything ships in one unit,” he said. “It includes two cartons of fruit, the display and even the shipping box is part of the display.”

The spin wheel displays are available to retailers in the U.S. and Canada. The company expects to ship at least 1,000 displays this season, Mast said.
