A Web-based game promotion has attracted so many players that Minneapolis-based Green Giant Fresh expanded it.

FarmVille, a game featured on social networking site Facebook, allows participants to “manage” a virtual farm.

Green Giant Fresh packaging features stickers with codes that allow FarmVille players to redeem them for “Farm Cash” on the site. While the coded stickers will be available only through July, they are redeemable online through Sept. 15, said Michalin Modena, Green Giant Fresh marketing manager.

“We started in June with the Target Stores carrying Green Giant Fresh products that had FarmVille stickers,” Modena said. “Now we’re expanding the promotion to more than 4,000 retailers in the U.S. and Canada.”

The stickers will be on 25 Green Giant Fresh products shipped through Aug. 1, Modena said.

About 20 million people play the game daily, she said.

“It’s really helped us put Green Giant Fresh back in front of the consumers in the social media world,” Modena said. “It’s been a great opportunity to modernize our communication channels to consumers."
