In April, Salinas, Calif.-based Green Giant Fresh will become the first fresh produce company to use the BoxTops label on packaging.

The Salinas, Calif.-based company plans to have Box Tops labels, which are clipped and redeemed for money for schools, on mushroom, iceberg, romaine hearts, broccoli and cauliflower packages in April, said Eddie Takashima, senior business analyst.

“We’re very excited,” Takashima said. “Seventy-nine percent of shoppers are willing to switch brands to support programs such as Box Tops.”

The program is a perfect fit, he said, for one of Green Giant’s target demographics: mothers with young children.

“Mothers are very motivated to buy (products with Box Tops labels),” Takashima said.

Green Giant Fresh plans to put Box Tops labels on additional commodities, he said.

Box Tops labels are found on more than 300 products and have been redeemed for $300 million for use in U.S. schools, Takashima said.
