Montreal-based Metro Inc. reorganized its fresh produce executive positions.

Bernadette Hamel was named to a newly created position of vice president of national procurement for Metro Inc., said Marie-Claude Bacon, director of corporate affairs. Metro wanted someone to specialize in produce, she said.

“We reorganized that sector and wanted someone who could really concentrate on that area,” Bacon said. “Fresh produce is really an area where customers are looking for more, and we want to make sure we have the resources to deliver.”

Hamel previously was the vice president of national procurement, merchandising and replenishment for Metro Richelieu, Metro Inc.’s Quebec division, Bacon said.

The changes took effect in late April, said Louise Barbier, executive assistant to the vice president of the fruit and vegetable division.

Barbier said Hamel’s merchandising duties shifted to Jean-Louis Charpentier, vice president of merchandising, perishables.

Ghislain Perron, who retired last year, also plans to continue working on special projects for the retailer for an “indefinite period,” Barbier said.
