Mexican avocado producers are sending out a heavy hitter to generate interest in Canada.

Miss Ava Cado, the ambassador of the Avocado Producers and Exporting Packers Association of Michoacán, Mexico, is leading an effort to make Cinco de Mayo a national holiday in Canada. Her visage also is on promotional materials encouraging Canadians to celebrate Mother’s Day by cooking avocado dishes, according to a news release.

The colorful Miss Ava Cado offers versatile recipes for both Cinco de Mayo and Mother’s Day on her website.

The avocado exporters are launching a campaign encouraging Canadians to make Cinco de Mayo a national holiday in their country. A poll on the website allows visitors to vote for or against the holiday. Visitors can also sign up for a chance to win a Cinco de Mayo party for eight at Cirillo’s Culinary Academy.
