SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Already well-known within the industry, the National Onion Association hopes to be a household name with consumers as well.

To that end, the association has a new consumer logo and slogan, “Onions: layers of flavor.”

Kim Reddin, director of industry and public relations for the Greeley, Colo.-based group, unveiled the new logo at the National Onion Assocition Convention on Dec. 3.

“We have a great image within the industry,” Reddin said. “But consumers don’t necessarily identify the association with the onions they eat.”

Reddin also plans to launch a blog and a presence on social networking Web sites such as Twitter and Facebook to reach out to consumers, taking on the persona “The Onion Lady.”
