New Jersey’s grower-shippers have honored Wegmans Food Markets Inc., Rochester, N.Y., for its loyalty to New Jersey produce.

During the Feb. 9 New Jersey State Agricultural Convention in East Brunswick, N.J., the New Jersey Agricultural Society presented Wegmans officials with the organization’s Phillip Alampi Industry Marketing Award, according to a news release.  

A New Jersey State Board of Agriculture member and grower, Scott Ellis, nominated Wegmans for the chain’s commitment to buying locally grown produce and for its contributions to the Farmers Against Hunger organization.

Charlie Tombasco, Wegmans New Jersey produce supervisor, accepted the award for the chain.
