The Produce for Better Health Foundation, Hockessin, Del., recognized Stop & Shop for its support of the “Fruits & Veggies — More Matters” program that encourages healthy eating by promoting increased consumption of fruits and vegetables.

“People want to eat better, but are sometimes conflicted by different messages about what foods they should eat for optimal health,” Andrea Astrachan, Stop & Shop’s consumer advisor, said in a news release.  “In this case, the message is agreed upon and simple — regardless of how many fruits and vegetables you normally consume, you can still benefit from adding more to your diet.”

To promote produce consumption, the chain features Healthy Ideas symbols on foods containing less fat, saturated fat, cholesterol and sodium and sponsors Store Explorer Tours that give grade school children lessons in healthy eating and allows them to sample fruits and vegetables.
