Potatoes from the Red River Valley of North Dakota and Minnesota will feature a pink ribbon tag to help raise awareness for breast cancer.

Valley shippers of red potatoes hope to raise $250,000 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation in Frisco, Texas, according to a news release from the Northern Plains Potato Growers Association, East Grand Forks, Minn.

Bagged tagged with a pink ribbon Kwik Lok will be available to retailers throughout the U.S., and point-of-sale signs will be made available for retailers, as well.

“Point of sale advertising to raise money for a great cause – it doesn’t get much simpler than that,” said the grower-shipper who came up with the idea for the promotion, Randy Boushey of A&L Potato Co., East Grand Forks, Minn.
