Display contests and consumer programs have been a great success so far late this year for the Chilean Avocado Importers Association.

The Aptos, Calif.-based group worked closely with its regional retail partners to promote the crop this year by sponsoring display contests.

Nearly all of the 104 locations of Tampa, Fla.-based Sweetbay Supermarkets participated in the display contest this year, said Steve Williams, director of produce in a news release.

“Our Chilean hass avocado promotion has been an absolute home run for us as we garnered double-digit sales increases,” Williams said. “I am really proud of our produce managers, merchandisers and store managers because they creatively and effectively promoted Chilean avocados through beautiful in-store displays.”

Produce manager Mark Every won the grand prize for CAIA and Sweetbay Supermarket’s display contest and received a cash prize and dinner with Food Network star Ingrid Hoffmann and Sweetbay executives.

CAIA has several promotions ongoing through the winter. Its “Grab Some for the Game” is targeted at sports fans and their families and the Chilean Avocado Lovers Club campaign, “So Good, So Many Ways” will award 60 gift cards worth $250 in free groceries.

Retailers in the four merchandising regions can enter to win first-, second- or third-place prizes in their regions for exceptional displays for the “Grab Some for the Game” promotion. Those winners also will be recommended to the United Fresh Produce Association’s Produce Manager of the Year awards.

So far, more than 5,000 consumers have entered to win in the Avocado Lover’s Club’s “So Good, So Many Ways” random drawing.

Winners are to be chosen and notified no later than March 15.
