Rocket Farms, Salinas, Calif., will be honored Feb. 5 by the Monterey County Business Council at its 15th annual Economic Vitality Awards.

The company provides year-round employment for 500 on the Central Coast - including 300 in Monterey County - and has a reputation for supporting nonprofit organizations and local school fundraisers, a news release said.

It’s one of seven businesses and individuals receiving the awards, to be presented 5:30-6:30 p.m. in a reservations-only event at the Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel & Spa.

Rocket Farms grows novelty orchids, poinsettias, organic and conventional herbs and vegetable plants, and potted flowering ornamentals.

With 5.5 million square feet of growing space, it’s the nation’s fourth-largest greenhouse grower, according to the company.

Rocket Farms products are sold at farmers markets, Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, Costco and other retailers.
