Save-a-Lot food stores, a discount chain owned by Supervalu Inc., named Andrea Wagner vice president of fresh products in March.

Wagner joined Save-a-Lot in 2008 and was previously the company’s vice president of consumer brand strategy, overseeing label packaging and design, advertising and marketing, consumer research and store design, according to Save-a-Lot’s Web site.

Prior to Save-a-Lot, Wagner worked for Kroger Co., managing branding and packaging, and for another grocery chain, San Antonio-based H-E-B. She’s also held various positions in brand management for Procter & Gamble Co.

Wagner, who’s bilingual and worked in Monterrey, Mexico, while with H-E-B, has “strong knowledge” of Hispanic consumers and of sourcing and wholesaling to Latin America, according to her profile on Save-a-Lot’s Web site. She’s based out of Earth City, Mo.

Save-a-Lot, which operates about 1,200 stores in 39 states, offers prices as much as 40% lower than conventional grocery chains, according to the company’s Web site.
