During the Sharing is Caring promotion in January, Sunkist and Jewel-Osco donated 25 cents for every three pound bag of cara cara oranges sold, according to a news release.

“We were honored to have the opportunity to work with Sunkist on a program that benefits our community by helping to feed the hungry while at the same time offering our customers an excellent quality product,” Ken Cruikshank, produce sales manager for Jewel-Osco, said in the release.

To help bolster the Sharing is Caring promotion, numerous Jewel-Osco stores offered in-store sampling of cara cara oranges and gave free recipe booklets to shoppers, the release said.

The promotion was backed by newspaper advertisements and in-store header cards about the Sharing is Caring program.
