Patrick Pizzuto Sr., owner of Waltham Fruit Inc., Cambridge, Mass., died July 4. He was 90.

Pizzuto began working at Waltham Fruit when he was 15 to support his family after his father’s death. Many years later, he bought the company, after opening three of his own retail produce stores with his wife, Mary. The business went on to be one of the leading produce suppliers in the Northeast, working with supermarkets, military bases, independent markets, restaurants, schools and individuals. It was sold in late 2006 to Baldor Specialty Foods, and Pizzuto had worked there every day until then.

Pizzuto also founded the Santa Lucia Society in Cambridge, becoming a member for more than 50 years. He was a lifetime member of the Dante Alighieri Society, also at Cambridge, and the Watertown Elks Lodge.

The family suggests donations in his name to the Mt. Auburn Hospital Development Office, 330 Mt. Auburn St., Cambridge, MA 02138.
