A 6% job growth and challenging employees to live healthy lifestyles helped Rochster, N.Y.-based Wegmans Food Markets maintain its No. 3 ranking on Fortune Magazine’s 100 Best Companies to Work For list.
Wegmans health and lifestyle efforts with employees, including challenging them to eat 5 cups of fruits and vegetables and walk 10,000 steps a day were listed among its attributes on the list.
Several other retailers also were recognized:
- Woodland, Calif.-based Nugget Market ranked No. 8;
- Norwalk, Conn.-based Stew Leondard’s jumped from No. 64 last year to No. 18 this year;
- Austin, Texas-based Whole Foods Market Inc. ranked No. 24; and
- Lakeland, Fla.-based Publix Super Markets ranked No. 67.
Orlando, Fla.-based Darden Restaurants entered the list at No. 97 this year, thanks in part to its policy of offering health insurance to part time employees.
