Frieda’s Inc., Los Alamitos, Calif., started a companywide health awareness initiative in February to motivate of its 75 employees to adopt healthier lifestyles.


Frieda’s encourages workers to slim down

Called “Frieda’s Healthy Initiative,” the program is focused on changing eating habits, measuring results and education, according to a news release, and includes changing vending machines to offer healthier choices, free fruit bowls each week and additional incentives to reduce junk food in the workplace.

Frieda’s employees are competing in eight teams to try to lose the highest percentage of weight over three months, according to the release.

The top three teams will receive cash prizes.

After the end of the three months, the company will start another three-month program using pedometers, awarding employees who walked the greatest distance, according to the release.

Employees are doing monthly educational workshops on healthier food choices and seminars on cooking with healthier ingredients.
