Produce Marketing Association members contributed an additional $372,000 this year to support food safety initiatives at the Center for Produce Safety, Davis, Calif.

Gold Circle contributions support PMA’s food safety work

As of Dec. 15, 372 PMA member companies had donated $1,000 each to the “Gold Circle: Campaign for Food Safety” program, according to a news release.

Donations to the Gold Circle program support Newark, Del.-based PMA’s global food safety initiatives in four primary areas: research, consumer education, industry outreach and training, and communications, according to the release. The funds help pay for food safety initiatives, including PMA’s support of produce-specific food safety research at the Center for Produce Safety.

The Gold Circle program also supports the work of PMA’s chief science officer, Robert Whitaker, who is the chairman of the technical committee that oversees the center’s research program.

Companies can donate to the Gold Circle program by contacting PMA, according to the release. In return for the support, PMA recognizes Gold Circle contributors throughout the year, including on a directory on PMA’s Web site. They are also featured at PMA events, including the annual Fresh Summit convention and exposition.
