(May 21) The Washington State Potato Foundation, Moses Lake, will have two golf tournaments this summer to raise money for promotion, research and the funding of educational scholarships.

The first tournament will be June 25 at Canyon Lakes Golf Course in Kennewick, Wash., and the second is July 10 at Sage Hills Golf Club in Warden, Wash., said Tracy Olberding, executive director for the foundation.

This year, the foundation has given 20 students scholarships valued at $1,000 each. Members of the foundation, commercial growers in Washington or Oregon or their children, are eligible to receive the scholarship. The winners were either high school seniors or college students chosen based on their grade point averages, honors, activities and a personal essay. Those who were studying a commodity-related field were given special preference.

Those who wish to sponsor either of the tournaments should call Olberding at (509) 528-4144 or (509) 765-8845 or Katie Nelson at (509) 528-0289.
