(July 29) LOS ANGELES — Patty Boman has taken on a new duties with The Giumarra Cos. after more than seven years as director of marketing at Bakersfield-based Grimmway Farms.

Giumarra, a major produce handler, brought Boman aboard to be director of category management.

Boman’s appointment fortifies Giumarra’s effort to expand and streamline its program, said Hillary Brick, vice president of marketing for Giumarra. These changes were announced July 27. Boman said she left Grimmway on July 9.

Boman said she was looking forward to working with different commodities and working more closely with retailers and category management.

Giumarra has been looking at expanding its category management program for some time, Brick said.

“It is new (for us) in terms of The Giumarra Cos. putting a great deal of effort into an entire category management program,” Brick said. “Patty will be leading that effort.”

Boman is based in Bakersfield and works on behalf of all Giumarra divisions, Brick said. However, Boman said she may relocate to Fresno.

Boman also has worked for the Artichoke Advisory Board, Castroville, and the California Fresh Carrot Advisory Board, Dinuba, in her more than 15 years in the produce industry.
