(March 21) Bob Grimm, a founder and president of Grimmway Farms, died March 17. He was 54.

Grimm apparently died from a heart condition, said Phil Gruszka, vice president of marketing for the Bakersfield, Calif.-based carrot grower-shipper.

Grimm, a director and past chairman of Western Growers, Irvine, Calif., was involved in agriculture programs at California universities and served with several Christian organizations, Gruszka said.

Grimm and his late brother, Rod, who died of cancer in 1998, co-founded the company in 1971.

Grimm’s nephew, Jeff Meger, is set to take over leadership of the company, which is privately owned by the families of Bob Grimm and Barbara Grimm-Marshall, Gruszka said.

Meger is a vice president of the company.

Grimm is survived by his wife, Kari; and his children: 24-year-old Brandon, 21-year-old Kellie, 16-year-old Brett, 13-year-old Chase and 10-year-old David.
