Steve Church has been named chairman of the Grower-Shipper Association of Central California, Salinas.

Church, vice president of operations at Church Bros., Salinas, follows outgoing chairwoman Lorri Koster, who led the group’s annual meeting May 20 when the change of leadership occurred. Church spoke about major changes in the industry over the past 10 years and touched on examples of outstanding innovation in local agriculture, as well as the struggles and challenges the industry faces, according to a news release.

Bill Ramsey of Mann Packing Co. was named recipient of the association’s annual E.E. “Gene” Harden Award for lifetime achievement in agriculture, according to the release. Ramsey will officially be presented the award at the organization’s annual gala event in June.

Church will lead the organization until May 2011. Other members of the board of directors are:
