(Dec. 22) The Fruit and Vegetable Industry Advisory Committee plans to meet Jan. 23-24 in Washington, D.C.

A U.S. Department of Agriculture news release said the meeting would include speakers on invasive pests and disease initiatives, U.S. produce industry labor and immigration proposals, a program budget for the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act and fees and food safety initiatives.

The advisory committee was chartered in 2001 and was re-established in 2003 and 2005.

In January, Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns named 25 produce industry members to serve two-year terms on the committee.

More information about the advisory committee is available on the Internet at www.ams.usda.gov, the release said.
