(April 3, 4:52 p.m.) MONTEREY, Calif. — A plan to establish a national fruit and vegetable promotion board was met with support at its unveiling, but produce industry members wanted to know more about governance of the program, specific costs and how effective a national campaign would be.

Elizabeth Pivonka, president of Wilmington, Del.-based Produce for Better Health Foundation, introduced foundation members to the plan at the board’s annual meeting April 3.

“If we have a strong national program it would enhance what individual commodities are already doing,” Pivonka said during her hour-long presentation.
