Jamba Juice, the Emeryville, Calif.-based smoothie shop, took a leap into the solid food world with the launch of a new menu that includes salads, flatbreads, sandwiches and wraps.

As part of its Summer Bliss is Back promotion, the chain is rolling the new menu in 222 California locations.

Two salads adorn the new menu, a Couscous and Produce Salad with jicama, red bell peppers, currants, sliced almonds, romaine and field greens; and the Caesar the Day! Salad with romaine, chicken breast, asiago cheese and croutons.

Field greens are also an ingredient in each of the chain’s sandwiches and wraps, with kalamata olives on the Greek Goodness Wrap and sweet corn on the Chimichurri Chicken Wrap. Shredded carrots, jicama and mango vinaigrette also embellish the Asian Style Chicken Wrap.

Jamba Juice launched four new flatbreads. The Tomo Artichoko has diced artichoke hearts along with three cheeses; the Smokehouse Chicken has roasted sweet corn, black beans, poblano chilies and red bell peppers, and the MediterraneYUM has zucchini, onions, bell peppers and mushrooms.

“In making our food choices, we were very selective in offering simple, high quality items without sacrificing taste,” Brian Lee, vice president of innovation and quality, said in a news release.

The food hit certain California stores June 15, and should be in stores nationwide over the next year, according to the release.

Also in June, the chain launched its Blackberry Bliss summer smoothie, which is made with blackberries, blueberries and strawberries, and only available for a limited time.

Jamba Juice dabbled in food starting this winter with oatmeal and baked goods, and continues to expand in an attempt to position itself as a mealtime destination instead of just a smoothie shop, according to the release.
