(Feb. 9) Ending a more than monthlong search, Kingsburg Orchards, Kingsburg, Calif., named Dan Spain as vice president of sales and marketing. He is scheduled to assume the position Feb. 13.

A veteran of 27 years in the produce industry, Spain has experience at the grower-packer and retail levels.

Spain was most recently vice president of sales and marketing for Booth Ranches LLC, Orange Cove. Prior to that, he was with Fresh Fruit Logistics Inc., Rancho Dominguez Hills, where he was vice president of marketing and merchandising.

Spain began his career in 1979 as produce manager for a retail market, moving up to the chain’s category manager of the produce division. Later he worked for Sunkist Growers Inc., Sherman Oaks, Calif., as marketing manager and director of national accounts.

Spain succeeds John Hein, who left the company in January to become a partner at and director of marketing for Crown Jewels Marketing and Distribution LLC, Fresno.

Kingsburg Orchards is a family-owned operation that grows peaches, nectarines, pluots and Asian pears on more than 8,000 acres. Hein said Kingsburg Orchards shipped more than 8 million cartons of fruit in 2006.
