Jack Scalisi Wholesale Fruit & Produce plans to expand its organic offerings after relocating to a larger facility.

Though the West Palm Beach, Fla.-based foodservice distributor has sold organic offerings in the past, it didn’t focus on the sector and didn’t consistently offer the product, said Jack Scalisi, president.

This spring marks the first year the company plans to offer a full line of organic produce, he said.

The move to organics follows the wholesaler’s planned relocation into a new and larger operation.

In early April, Scalisi plans to relocate into a new warehouse and plans to achieve Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design certification shortly after completing the move, Scalisi said.

The 19,000-square-foot warehouse includes 14,500 square feet of refrigerated storage and nine refrigerated shipping and four receiving docks.

“With our new facility, we will be able to handle organics correctly,” Scalisi said. “We are seeing more interest in organics. I see that as the future.”

Scalisi distributes produce to upscale restaurants, country clubs and hotels throughout the populous Miami-Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and West Palm Beach metropolitan areas, and trucks product to customers as far north as Fort Pierce, Fla.
