Keany Produce Co., Landover, Md., has expanded its sales force by two people and added a quality-assurance director, among several moves it has made in the last year, said Paul Pappas, chief operating officer.

Steve DeBernardis, who just finished his bachelor’s degree, has moved from part-time to full-time status, Pappas said, adding that DeBernardis, who has handled numerous jobs for the company, started his full-time sales duties in the fall of 2009.

The company also hired Patrick Jarboe, who has a background as a chef, to the sales staff, Pappas said. Jarboe started last year.

Hassan Sesay is the company’s new quality assurance manager, coming to Keany in May, Pappas said.

Sesay, who has a degree in chemistry from the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore, succeeded Diane Ward, who left the firm, Pappas said.

Keany also is investing more in warehouse-management systems “to make us more efficient on the operations side, with management, accountability and traceability,” Pappas said.

The company also has widened its distribution area to include Tidewater, Va., Pappas said. Deliveries to Tideater began in April, he said.
