The Jessup-based Maryland Wholesale Produce Market has restarted a composting program that had been inactive for several years, said Rose Harrell, market manager.

“We just began our composting program at the beginning of May,” Harrell said. “For the 15th of June, when I had done the analysis, we were composting 48% of all the trash in the market. That was a really good start for the first six weeks of the program, and we feel very confident that the program will move forward and get stronger.”

The market also is working on a “full recycling program,” as well, Harrell said.
