Washington, D.C.-based Pete Pappas & Sons Inc. is working on sustainability initiatives, said Gus Pappas, president.

“We’re probably going to be converting our five trucks to low-emission diesel motors, and we’re also looking into changing the lighting here in the warehouse to high-efficiency lighting,” Pappas said. “We’re also looking into some local farming initiatives with some greenhouses.”

The upgrades with the trucks and lighting probably will happen in the next year, Pappas said, adding that the greenhouse initiative likely will get under way in the next two years.
