QSI LLC in Los Angeles has delved into the consulting business, said Paul Vogel, managing member.

“We’ve diversified our business model,” he said.

The company now offers advice to retailers, foodservice operators and wholesalers on how to improve their operations and increase business.

QSI also has expanded its hours with trained personnel on duty to answer phones from 2 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 2 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Three salesmen have signed on with the firm:

  • Dean Cipperly, most recently with Pacific Sun Distributing Inc., Los Angeles, will expand and develop mixed loading and consolidation business nationwide and internationally;

  • Guillermo Andrade, most recently with Sam’s Produce Co., Pico Rivera, Calif., has been hired to increase the company’s exposure to foodservice and Hispanic retail accounts and to develop the avocado and citrus categories; and

  • Rick Brown, who has 25 years of entrepreneurial produce experience as a grower, shipper, packer, importer and exporter, will focus on new business development, Vogel said.

The company also has promoted Fernando Godoy, formerly the night shift supervisor at the company’s distribution center, to sales associate.

Finally, QSI now is a reusable plastic container collection point for Houston-based IFCO Systems NA, and is working with that company to improve its reclamation and reporting processes, Vogel said.
