Mann Packing Co., Salinas, has redesigned the packaging for Simply Singles whole leaf lettuce, with a clear label to give consumers a better view of the product.

The new retail clamshell packaging also includes information about the company and the Simply Singles product on the back, said Lorri Koster, vice president of marketing.

“It bounces off the shelf,” Koster said.

Mann Packing plans to launch the new package design at the Canadian Produce Marketing Association convention May 6-8 in Toronto.

Simply Singles, introduced in 2000 for foodservice use, are washed and ready-to-use single lettuce leaves available in three varieties: romaine hearts, and red and green leaf lettuce.

The redesign also includes use of a tamper-evident strip around the lid and recyclable packaging, according to a news release. The Simply Singles lettuces are grown by Mann Packing’s affiliate, Fresh Leaf Farms.
