(Sept. 19) LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. — Market Fresh Produce LLC has refreshed its offerings by adding russet, red and gold potatoes, fingerlings and new packaging, said Jim Richter, executive vice president of business development.

In 2007, Richter said the company plans to market tomatoes, apples and possibly organic commodities.

The company’s core business model has focused on year-round sweet potato and sweet onion marketing, Richter said.

For its new potato lineup, Richter said the company will source from Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Minnesota, North Dakota, Oregon, Washington and Wisconsin.

Richter said about 70% of the company’s new potato lineup will end up at retail, while 30% will go to foodservice.

The new packaging features a black design, high-impact graphics, a picture of the product and a recipe. The packaging also includes Market Fresh’s logo, Produce for Better Health Foundation’s logo and the food pyramid.

The new design offers uniformity, and the black color makes the packaging eye-catching, Richter said.
