TexaSweet Citrus Marketing Inc., based in Mission, Texas, is in the midst of another sweet season of marketing Texas oranges and grapefruit.

“Our materials this year are designed to be beautiful, user-friendly and informative for retailers and educators,” said executive director Eleisha Ensign.

“They’re free of charge, and we send out more than 600,000 pieces each season.”

A new buyer’s guide in a CD format filled with high-resolution photos, logos and recipes will help retailers advertise and sell more Texas citrus, Ensign said.

For teachers, TexaSweet, the marketing arm for the state’s citrus growers, has designed a big activity sheet full of educational information for coloring, plus bookmarks and large double-sided posters to hang in classrooms or lunchrooms.

In February, the group will hold Texas Rio Star Grapefruit Roundup Days in Austin and Dallas. The week-long promotion will include educational events in 20 schools for children in grades 2-4. Parents, meanwhile, can enjoy retail sampling demonstrations at selected supermarkets.
