The Wisconsin Potato and Vegetable Growers Association Inc., Antigo, plans to start 2011 with a new logo and a new website.

“For the past three years, we’ve been trying to talk to consumers and industry professionals on one site,” said marketing director Tim Feit, “but it’s hard to be all things to all people.”

The original site,, will remain for the industry, he said, while a new site,, will focus on consumers.

“With two sites, we can do a better job of communicating to our members and to consumers,” Feit said.

The association also plans to redesign its long-time Homegrown Wisconsin logo.

“We all felt it was time to give our logo new life,” Feit said, “and we’d like to incorporate the distinctive shape of our state.”

Home cooks are being invited to enter seasonal potato recipes online to win grocery gift cards. The Win with Wisconsin Potatoes contest, held four times a year, is also a great way to generate point-of-sale materials for retailers, Feit said.

“Last year we got close to 400 entries,” he said. “We photograph the current winner and the three winning dishes and develop recipe tear pads and posters to promote the next contest.

“It helps retailers spruce up their potato bin, and the recipes prompt consumers to buy potatoes,” he said.

Online videos of the winning recipes should also encourage more cooks to try them.
