(Dec. 2, 6:06 p.m.) All bulk apples and pears sold at Marsh Supermarkets Inc. stores in Indiana and Ohio are now organic.

In a change announced Nov. 1, Indianapolis-based Marsh switched all pipfruit sold at its 99 Marsh and five O’Malia’s stores to organic — and promised to sell it at the same price as conventional, according to a company news release.

In the release, the company said it was making the switch to provide consumers with “healthful crops in concert with Mother Nature.”

Elsewhere on its Web site, Marsh cites studies that claim organic produce is more nutritional than conventional produce.

Marsh officials did not return calls for comment.
