(May 1) CHICAGO – A California veggie sandwich will be a featured item in a new “diner” concept that fast-food giant McDonald’s is preparing to launch.

According to Restaurant Business, a foodservice trade publication, the restaurant chain will combine its burger operations with a sandwich and platter shop and bakery-ice cream outlet.

The concept will include a call-in carryout service.

Patrons who dine in can choose items from the Sandwich & Platter Shop, which features sandwiches like a hot beef and cheese, a Reuben, a California veggie and a barbecue. No sandwich on the sample menu is priced above $4.49, according to Restaurant Business.

Another feature of the McDonald’s three-in-one restaurant, according to Restaurant Business, is a system that allows customers to place orders from tables.
