(April 7) John Kiley has become the new senior sales manager for foodservice at Natural Selection Foods LLC and will be responsible for leading the foodservice sales operations at the San Juan Bautista, Calif.-based company.

The company also now sells an organic cavendish banana, the top banana variety in the U.S.

Kiley joined Natural Selection in 1999 as a foodservice specialist. Before joining the company, Kiley spent five years in foodservice sales at Fresh Express, Atlanta.

Kiley said from his new position, he will be able to build the relationship between Natural Selection and the growing demand for organics in the foodservice industry

“Because of our well-developed relationships with foodservice customers, we recognize that their needs are different from those of our retail customers,” Kiley said. “Because of the company’s leading position in organic produce, we are uniquely positioned to help them capitalize on the growing public demand for organics.”

Earthbound Farm, a Natural Selection Foods label, has made its organic version of cavendish bananas available to select East Coast populations already, and nationwide distribution is expected soon.

The bananas are grown in Ecuador and are certified by the California Certified Organic Farmers. They are available green or gassed, either in a cello bag or naked, bunched and stickered.

Earthbound Farm bananas began shipping in March and are now available for pick up in New York City and Perryman, Md. Delivery service is also available from those sites.
