(May 22) RALEIGH, N.C. — The Tarheel State is trying to help sell more of the state’s seasonal produce by linking produce buyers with North Carolina growers and cooperatives through a new program called N.C. Fresh Connection.

The campaign, launched by North Carolina’s Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Raleigh, will provide retail, foodservice and wholesale produce buyers monthly updates on the state’s fresh fruit and vegetables.

The updates, released before harvests, will allow buyers to incorporate the produce into their scheduled buys, a department spokesman said in a news release.

The first newsletter update, released in May, promotes round white, red and yukon gold potatoes, green, red, savoy and napa cabbage.

A Web site, www.ncfreshconnection.com, also provides updated crop information and availability.
