(Aug. 19, PACKER WEB EXCLUSIVE) The Washington Apple Education Foundation, Yakima, raised almost $40,000 for charitable activities, including the industry’s scholarship program.

The foundation sponsored its 13th annual golf tournament on July 17 at Apple Tree Golf Course in Yakima.

The tournament was presented by Wilber Ellis Co. and Valent USA.

“Since the Foundation’s inception I’ve been a strong supporter,” said tournament chairman Peter Verbrugge, in a news release. “A better-educated community is a stronger community. It’s apparent my peers and friends in the industry feel the same way. Support for the foundation is high and belief in their work is strong, as evidenced by tournament players and sponsors.”

The winning team with low gross score was Jason Champoux, Gary Remsberg, Aaron VanWyle and Mike Wold, sponsored by Keyes Fiber. Low net score was won by Brian Johnson, Scott Carpenter, Mike Saunders and Bob Wells, who were sponsored by AmericanWest Bank.
