Ocean Mist Farms, Castroville, Calif., has donated $100,000 to help expand the agricultural program at Hartnell College in Salinas, Calif.

“Hartnell College is doing an outstanding job caring for our community and helping invest in our future work force,” Ed Boutonnet, chief executive officer, said.

The expansion, which is in response to the 314-student increase in the last four years, includes a 40,000-square-foot Center for Advanced Technology building with science labs, industry training rooms and smart classrooms; and 15-20 acres with learning laboratories on the Alisal campus dedicated to ag business, food safety and ag mechanics.

There will also be a classroom named for the company in the building.

Within Ocean Mist, Afreen Malik, manager of food safety/environmental stewardship, is an instructor and advisory member in Hartnell’s food safety program; Joe Pezzini, vice president of operations is a member of the ag business, marketing and production advisory committee; and Boutonnet has directly benefitted from the college’s ag program.
