(July 15) VANCOUVER, British Columbia — The Oppenheimer Group has added to its greenhouse-vegetable marketing unit by hiring Mike Reed as greenhouse category director, effective July 5.

Reed’s responsibilities include leading Oppenheimer’s marketing programs for greenhouse-grown tomatoes, peppers, lettuce and cucumbers and looking for ways to expand the category.
“He has a wealth of experience in the greenhouse industry and solid knowledge of the North American retail landscape,” John Anderson, Oppenheimer’s chairman, president and chief executive officer, said in a news release.

Reed, a 15-year marketing veteran, had been vice president of sales and marketing for Vancouver-based BC Hot House Foods Inc. for the last seven years.

The addition of Reed is timely, said David Smith, executive director of Oppenheimer’s greenhouse category.

“Our growers in Canada are now producing peak volumes,” Smith said in the news release. “Mike is well-regarded by the British Columbia greenhouse community.“

It’s the latest in a series of changes for Oppenheimer, which, early in 2004, formed an alliance with Global Greenhouse Produce Inc.

Taking Reed’s sales duties at BC Hot House is Dawn Gray, who for the last 15 months had been vice president of marketing for that company.
