An importer of Italian fruit has filed for bankruptcy.
Swedesboro, N.J.-based Paganini Foods LLC filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Feb. 1 in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New Jersey, according to court documents.
Paganini Foods was founded in 2002 by Celso Paganini. The company imported kiwifruit, grapes, lemons and Sicilian red oranges from Italy.
Paganini Foods marketed fruit under the Bella Vita brand name. Its marketing program, Mediterranean Pleasures, offered industry members point-of-sale materials and funding for print, radio and TV advertising and trips to Italian growing areas.
According to court documents, the company has between 100 and 199 creditors, assets of zero to $50,000 and liabilities of more than $1 million but equal to or less than $10 million.
