(April 10) Delano, Calif.-based Pandol Bros. Inc. is the newest member of the team of grower-packer-shippers working with the Nickelodeon channel to improve the eating habits of children.

Anthony Stetson, vice president of sales for Pandol Bros., said the company entered into a licensing agreement to use the network’s popular cartoon character, SpongeBob SquarePants, on bagged table grapes.

Stetson said the first of the SpongeBob SquarePants-labeled grapes to reach market shelves will be from the late spring harvest in Mexico. He said Pandol Bros. has its own acreage in Mexico and works with several other Mexican growers.

The SpongeBob SquarePants label will continue as the harvest moves to California this summer, he said.

“Details are still to be worked out but we expect to add more Nickelodeon network cartoon characters to our table grape labels,” Stetson.

Pandol Bros. is the second San Joaquin Valley fruit grower to secure a licensing agreement with the children’s television network. Summeripe Worldwide Inc., Dinuba, plans to market SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer peaches, plums, nectarines and pluots for the first time this season. Summeripe Worldwide and Nickelodeon reached a licensing agreement in the fall.
