(Aug. 1) The Georgia Peach Commission, Atlanta, launched a new section on its Web site that contains peach merchandising tips for retailers.

The site, www.gapeaches.org, now offers retailers storage, handling and display ideas.

Site visitors can download artwork and nutrition information posters for use in point-of-sale materials.

Recent research by the Perishables Group, West Dundee, Ill., and Tampa, Fla.-based public relations firm Sahlman-Williams found that primary shoppers who buy fresh peaches tend to prefer Georgia peaches because of their flavor, said Elizabeth Wallace, a spokeswoman for the firm.

Sahlman-Williams developed the commission’s Web site in March, Wallace said.

Georgia harvests more than 130 million pounds of peaches each year between mid-May and mid-August, and there are more than 40 varieties of peaches grown in the state, Wallace said.
