(UPDATED COVERAGE, Jan. 18) Dennis James, marketing director for Pear Bureau Northwest, is resigning Jan. 28.
 
James, who joined the Milwaukie, Ore.-based bureau in 2001, said he has accomplished everything he set out to accomplish at the bureau.

“As I look around, I’ve reached the top of the hill,” he said. “It’s time to find some new hills to climb.”

Before he does that, though, James said he looks forward to taking some time off.

“I’m at the point where I’m looking around, but I want to have some fun first and enjoy life a little bit,” he said. “Work on the house, do a little camping and fishing, just enjoy myself. At the same time, I’ll miss the pear industry. It’s a wonderful group of people.”

When he returns to the working world, James said he hopes it’s in the produce industry.

During his tenure at the pear bureau, James led the bureau’s domestic pear program, instituting a data system used in customized retail marketing efforts.
 
Before joining the bureau, James worked for the California Table Grape Commission, Del Monte Fresh Produce NA Inc. and Dole Fresh Fruit Co. In 1999 he became a board member of the Canadian Produce Marketing Association.
