Pete Galvan, Hronis salesman, dies

After a four-year stint in the U.S. Air Force, Galvan, an Arizona native, began his produce career in Nogales, Ariz.

He moved to California’s Central Valley in 1985. In addition to Delano, Calif.-based Hronis, where he worked for the past eight years, Galvan worked for Sanger, Calif.-based Gerawan Farming, Los Angeles-based Steveco Inc. and Bakersfield, Calif.-based Superior Farms.

Pete Hronis, Hronis’s vice president of sales, said he never met a person in the produce industry who didn’t like Galvan.

“Pete was not only a great employee, he was a great friend,” Hronis said. “He was a man of his word. If he said something was going to happen, it happened.”

Galvan loved his job so much, he and Hronis had a running competition to see who could get to work first in the morning, Hronis said.

“He loved selling produce — it’s what made him tick every day,” Hronis said. “He never talked about retiring.”

Galvan’s sons Louie and John are partners in Delano-based Fruit Royale Inc.

Galvan is survived by his wife, Lupita; five children; 18 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
