Going to the Produce Marketing Association’s Fresh Summit this fall? Add running shoes to your list of things to pack.

In what seems a fitting activity, the PMA for Industry Talent (PMA FIT) is sponsoring its inaugural Live FIT 5-kilometer race.

The fundraising run/walk race for the foundation — formed in 2006 to help to develop industry talent — is scheduled Oct. 2 at the Anaheim Marriot Hotel, Anaheim, Calif.

The event is in conjunction with the Newark, Del- based PMA’s Fresh Summit International Convention & Exposition Oct. 2-5, according to a news release.

“We’re expecting it will be an annual thing,” said Julia Stewart, public relations director for PMA. “There are fitness-minded people in the produce industry and we thought we would provide them an opportunity to maintain their fitness while they are at the show and support a good cause in the process.”

The race begins at 7 a.m. and consists of a course that will loop around the Anaheim Convention Center twice. Medals will be awarded to the top three overall male and female finishers, as well as to the top two male and female finishers in each age group.

“We hope that Fresh Summit attendees and exhibitors will embrace this event as a great way to support the future of our industry while also committing to live fit,” said Bill Schuler, chairman of the group’s board of directors, in the release.

Schuler is president and chief executive officer for the Castellini Co., Newport, Ky.

Registration is $25 before Aug. 30, increases to $30 through Sept. 29 and then $35 the day of the race, according to the release. Online registration is here.
