Cindy Seel plans to leave her position as executive director of the Produce Marketing Association’s Foundation for Industry Talent to become executive vice president of the Atlanta-based Printing and Imaging Association of Georgia.

“I’ve always described the produce industry as addictive,” Seel said. “But I found that I was just torn with really needing and wanting to be with my kids and being in love with my job.”

Seel’s last day is set for March 5.

Seel rejoined PMA as executive director of PMA FIT — a job that required developing and launching PMA FIT — in 2006, six years after she left the association the first time. From 1996-2000 she was director of division programs, later promoted to vice president of division programs.

In the interim, Seel was executive vice president of the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants in Richmond, Va., until her husband’s job relocated them to Atlanta. In Georgia, Seel got into the paper industry at the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry as director of membership and marketing.

“I’ve been working in associations for 22-23 years now, and the produce association has my favorite group of members,” Seel said. “And I’ve told people, our paths will cross again.”

During her last three and a half years at PMA FIT, Seel was responsible for launching a foundation at a very difficult time to do so, said Bryan Silbermann, president.

“We’ve already reached $4.7 million toward a goal of $5 million,” Silbermann said. “That’s pretty remarkable when you consider the tough economic times over the last few years.”

The association has already started searching for Seel’s successor, and has a few potential candidates in mind. Silbermann said he hopes to start the interview process as soon as possible.

PMA FIT also notified its contributors with an e-mail letter from Seel, explaining her choice to take the new position, thanking them for their support, and reminding them of the projects PMA FIT has accomplished in its few years of existence.
